Cranial Sacral Massage Therapy (CST)
An overstimulated nervous system can be debilitating for day to day tasks, CST offers a reset that allows the body to quiet overactive nerves and return to baseline.
Travis Matthews offers Cranial Sacral Therapy in 60-minute in-studio sessions. Recipients remain fully clothed. Sessions consist of light rhythmic taps and extremely light pressure. As with all bodywork at We Luv Freely, sessions are highly customized to needs of client on the day of receiving treatment.
What is Cranial Sacral Therapy (CST)?
Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is gentle. It is a non-invasive form of hands-on bodywork that evaluates and enhances the function of the craniosacral system which is comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround, nourish, and protect the brain and spinal cord.
Developed by an osteopathic physician named Dr. John Upledger, in the 1970s, CST operates on the principle that restrictions in the connective tissues (fascia) surrounding the central nervous system can disrupt the natural flow of cerebrospinal fluid. By using extremely light touch, practitioners locate and release these deep-seated restrictions, allowing the central nervous system to self-correct and relieve pain.

What conditions does craniosacral therapy treat?
Craniosacral therapy remedies chronic headaches, migraines, TMJ disorders, neck and back pain, stress, and nervous system fatigue. By releasing restrictions around the central nervous system, CST is also widely used to manage symptoms of concussion recovery, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, sinus pressure, and trauma-related tension.
What you might feel during Cranial Sacral Massage Therapy:
During a Craniosacral Therapy (CST) session, you can expect to feel an extraordinarily light, static touch—roughly the weight of a nickel—as the practitioner gently holds key areas like your head, spine, and lower back without any heavy pressure or muscle kneading. As your central nervous system shifts into a deeply restorative "rest-and-digest" state, you may experience soft physical sensations such as gentle warmth, subtle tingling, mild pulsing, or a feeling of tissues gently "unwinding" beneath the therapist's hands. Many clients report feeling weightless, deeply grounded, or as though they are floating, often drifting into a quiet state between waking and sleep. You might also experience moments of profound stillness where bodily tension simply dissolves, making the overall sensation painless, deeply calming, and subtle.
How soon do you feel the effects of craniosacral therapy?
Many people feel immediate relaxation and emotional calm during or right after their first session, with physical improvements taking full effect over the following 24 to 48 hours. As your central nervous system adjusts, you may notice progressive pain reduction, deeper sleep, and improved range of motion in the days following treatment.
How many craniosacral therapy sessions do you need?
Most clients require 3 to 6 sessions to achieve significant, long-lasting relief, though individual treatment plans vary based on whether the condition is acute or chronic. While a single session can produce immediate stress relief, long-standing structural issues like chronic TMJ, migraines, or historical physical trauma usually benefit from weekly or bi-weekly sessions.
